1081 Burrard Street - DP-2019-00259

The Catholic Charities Men’s Shelter currently located at 828 Cambie Street has applied to the City of Vancouver to alter/ change a space and move the Men’s Shelter to the Comox Building located at 1081 Burrard Street of the old Saint Paul’s Hospital grounds. The relocated Men’s Shelter shall include the following:

• Normally operate 16 hours daily (4 pm – 8 am) on 2nd floor;
• Normally open 24/7 on the 3rd floor in the Medical Stabilization area only;
• Create space for 98 beds on the 2nd floor;
• Create space for 14 beds on the 3rd floor;
• Minimum of 2 to 4 staff at all times;
• Minimum of 6 to upwards of 24 volunteers and 1 for staff;
• 10 new showers c/w 4 accessibility stalls; and
• Temporary cold and wet weather shelter.

We appreciate your support as we work with BC Housing and non-profit shelter provider with the relocation of this shelter.

Under the site’s existing DD zoning, the application is “conditional” so it may be permitted; however, it requires the decision of the Director of Planning.

We welcome your written comments (letter or e-mail) on this development application. Comments should be received on, or before May 3, 2019, to be considered in the staff review. However, written comments will be considered up until the date of decision.
